Debt Collection Tips for Some Fairy Tale Characters
Debt collection is an effortless task for someone to accomplish. There are always hard feelings and opposition. Even good people who have hit a rough patch financially have a hard time dealing when a debt collector calls. This extends to the fairy tale realm as well. In thatrealm, debt collectors are labeled as villains and all around bad guys. Is this really fair?
Take Rumpelstiltskin as a primary example. He helped the eventual queen to survive by spinning straw into gold for her, not once but twice. The first two times went off without a hitch, as the miller’s daughter who would become queen was able to pay him with her own jewelry. When he comes to collect the final amount owed to him, the queen’s baby, she guesses his name and he meets his demise. If he had only done his victory dance after he had the baby, he most likely would’ve survived.
The witch in Rapunzel didn’t do any better. Although the father in the story had stolen from her, she was going to let it go. She saw that the man’s wife was in grave need of some rampion from her garden and asked merely for the couple’s soon to be born baby as payment. She saved his wife’s life; it was only fair that she got the baby in return. The old witch ends up all alone in this story, after the girl, Rapunzel, escapes captivity. If the old witch had just accepted cash in return for the rampion, the whole problem most likely could have been averted.
One of the more direexamples of injustices of a “villain” trying to get what was owed was the story of Ursula, from the Little Mermaid. Ursula helped Ariel to become human, and gave her an opportunity to be with the man she loved. The payment was Ariel’s voice, which she received but which eventually became a key part of her demise. Ursula tried to assist people and merely wanted fair payment in return for her generous benevolence.
The world of debt collection is never easy, and is frequently unpleasant. This extends into the murky underworld of the fairy tale realm, where those who offer to aid others and only want to be paid are painted as evil characters. Meanwhile, the true perpetrators of dishonorable schemes are lauded as heroes and heroines. This doesn’t seems fair, does it?
